The heart of ACT

Six skills that build psychological flexibility

Together, these six skills — practised gently over time — have been shown across thousands of studies to lead to a more resilient, meaningful life.

1

Being present

Coming back to the here and now, again and again, instead of being lost in thought.

2

Acceptance

Making room for difficult feelings rather than fighting or avoiding them.

3

Defusion

Unhooking from unhelpful thoughts — seeing them as thoughts, not commands.

4

Self-as-context

Resting in the part of you that notices — steady, whatever passes through.

5

Values

Getting clear on what truly matters to you — your own compass for living.

6

Committed action

Taking small, meaningful steps toward your values, one at a time.
